Bill & The Kid: Sept 2026

This story has been rolling around in my head for a while, but I couldn't find a way in. So, I returned to what I call my queer genealogy series, Pierre & Bill, and took it from there. That made the story easier to tell.

But Bill & The Kid stands on its own. New characters. New story. New direction. Bill is still there and Anton and Ruth and they're loveable and funny and they don't take shit. But it's years after we last saw them and now they're the supporting cast. The main character is barely fourteen.

If you've read the other books, the backdrop will be familiar. Queer parenting. Chosen families. And then there's the banter, sometimes loving and sometimes lethal, depending upon who's on the receiving end. Please note. One of the threads in this story concerns abuse, but it’s never depicted. Consensual sex between men is.

Bill & The Kid is not yet available or even announced, so it's too early for preorders or ARCs. But if you're interested, let me know and I'll get back to you before the book's release. For a complete description, click the Goodreads link.

Thanks. Patrick

As top reviewer, Ulysses Dietz, puts it: "Van Russo is kind of a jerk. However, he’s a jerk for a reason, or a number of reasons, and this marvelous, oddly tender novel—part mystery, part romance—explains what those reasons are."
